Sleepwear Trends of 2020

What comes to mind when you think of your most favourite and most cosy pyjama look?
We’re pretty sure no two answers are exactly the same! Sleepwear is a category that has been constantly evolving, not just due to ever-changing fashion trends, but also due to our own desire for choice and comfort, that will best suit our individual style and needs. Nowadays, it’s difficult to pinpoint a general ‘pyjama’ look as it varies so much from person to person - whether it’s an oversized t-shirt, a co-ord set or a nightdress, everyone has their own version of the perfect or most comfortable sleepwear. But one thing is for certain, there has never been such a luxurious selection of nightwear, and 2020 seems to be the year in which people will start to enjoy blurring the line between nighttime and daytime wear. Brands are already starting to adapt to the idea that consumers are slowly becoming ‘cosy homebodies’ and therefore appreciate sleepwear that is perfect for life in and out of bed.
So, with that in mind, let's take a look at some of 2020s sleepwear trends and predictions...
Night to Day Sleepwear
Throughout 2020, homes have come to represent a sanctuary to live, work and play.
A more flexible lifestyle and a priority for self-care and mindfulness has helped more people be able to work from home. But this ability to spend more time at home or transition from a home to an office environment frequently during the day has definitely changed style needs. More people are starting to see that previously ‘typical office attire’ isn’t the only way to dress to be professional, and nowadays, people enjoy the idea of being professional and stylish yet comfortable. No one really wants to be wearing comfortable and chic pyjama garments, to then have to change into a pantsuit or work attire, just to pop into the office for a few hours! Therefore, ‘day-to-night’ garments are becoming a go-to. And even some brands are creating “work from home” collections. Whether that’s wearing a silk robe over pants and a top, Sleepy Dee’s very own bamboo top and bottom sets or a satin slip paired with a coat, 2020 seems to be the year where you are able to decide what is most comfortable and stylish for you to help you stay productive and feel most like yourself, whilst also maintaining that level of professionalism, if need be.
Sophisticated in Silk
Silk is set to become even more popular in 2020, especially considering the ‘day-to-night’ sleepwear trend.
Silk is so versatile and adaptable, enabling you to feel comfortable and luxurious whilst you sleep, but also add a touch of sexiness and elegance to your outfit if you decide to wear it out! It’s also a great fabric all year round - a little silk slip can be the perfect evening outfit in the summer, but just as stunning in winter paired with a long coat and tights! Not only that, especially with mini silk slips, you are able to dress them up or down - pair them with some docs or heels, the world is your oyster!
It’s not just garments!
Self-care and mindfulness are becoming hugely important in day to day life, which has allowed brands to consider that consumers don’t just want comfort and care through their sleepwear, they are also seeking it through their sleep accessories.
Nighttime ‘skincare routines’ have instead become ‘rituals’, again as a way to help people make time for themselves and their self-care. Nighttime skincare rituals go hand in hand with a restful sleep - just think about how good it sounds to scrub off a day’s makeup, finish with a refreshing face serum, and then sleep peacefully on a Sleepy Dee mulberry silk pillowcase! The ritual will even continue after you fall asleep as the fabric of our pillowcases help the product absorb better into your skin, and the silk isn’t damaging or harsh against such delicate skin. Sleepy Dee also sells a range of silk hair scrunchies, that help reduce hair breakage, and have natural hypoallergenic benefits, because for us, stylishness, comfort and self-care go beyond clothing!
Feeling blue?
Another trend to consider for 2020 that fits in beautifully with the topic of sleepwear is Pantone’s colour of the year - Classic Blue. Pantone describes this colour as “instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” Sleepy Dee has a beautiful range of products in blue tones, so you’ll definitely be on the colour trend this year! Blue tones have always provided a sense of serenity. It is elegant, yet simplistic and overall goes hand in hand with the trending topic of transitional, comfortable and stylish sleepwear.
Sustainability
Sustainability itself is becoming more and more of a ‘trend’ each year and people are wanting to do their part in living a more sustainable life.
Brands are also starting to see the benefits of incorporating more sustainable practices and fabrics into their supply chains. Because at the end of the day, a restful night’s sleep shouldn’t cost the environment. Sleepy Dee is already on the upcoming trend of bamboo fabric! Bamboo is a great sustainable fabric that has a natural sheen, feels silky soft and luxurious against your skin. Other trending sustainable fabrics to look out for this year include organic cotton, and rayon.
